The next era for Jordan Brand will rest upon the shoulders of Zion Williamson.
Potentially the next great NBA superstar – Zion Williamson – has decided to join Team Jordan and signed with Jordan Brand. After speculation as to whether he would sign with Nike, Puma or Jordan Brand, news came out today that the deal was made. What does this mean for Jordan Brand?
Jordan Brand and particularly the Air Jordan series, have once again become a hot commodity. Since the late 80’s until Michael Jordan’s last game with the Washington Wizards, Air Jordan sneakers have been a pop-culture icon and the brand is only getting stronger. Collaborations with some of the biggest names in various industries has only helped the allure of the mystifying Air Jordan line of sneakers.
Special editions of some of your favorite silhouettes inspired by industry staples are releasing regularly. Travis Scott, Drake and Virgil Abloh are some of the biggest names on the list but there’s many more. However, Jordan Brand still didn’t have that key athlete signing. Now with Zion Williamson on-board, they do.
With the signing of potentially the next face of the NBA, Jordan Brand finally has a chance to promote a suitable successor to Michael Jordan’s legacy. Of course, this all depends on the success Zion has at the professional level. Jordan Brand has signed collegiate stars in the past but none have ever been able to live up to the name of the brand – Jordan. This time around, they got just the right guy. It’ll all be a matter of Zion living up to the hype and making his mark on the basketball world, just like MJ did. Check out what Zion had to say about the signing:
“I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the Jordan Brand family.” “Since I was a kid, I dreamed of making it to the league and having the type of impact on the game Michael Jordan had and continues to have today. He was one of those special athletes I looked up to, and I really can’t express how happy and excited I am for this journey.”
Impressed? Not yet? Take a look at what Michael Jordan had to say about the Zion Williamson signing:
“He’s an essential part of the new talent that will help lead the brand into the future. He told us he would ‘shock the world,’ and asked us to believe him. We do.”
As long as Zion delivers, he will ‘shock the world’. The only question is, will he be doing it wearing the next ‘Air Jordan’ sneaker or will he be rocking the ‘Air Zion’?
Let the journey begin.
